Doing it right: health and safety planning
For maximum effectiveness, our collaborative
approach engages and involves all stakeholders.
After we have conducted an assessment of a community or property, we work in collaboration with the client to develop a safety strategy and a comprehensive, specific and measurable plan to address any areas of vulnerability — beginning with those that represent the highest risk and liability exposure.
Our approach to community health and safety planning is a highly collaborative process, in which we work closely with the client to discuss findings and recommendations, as well as available staffing, budget, schedules and related matters. This process can also involve collaboration with the partnering organizations, such as government agencies, community leaders, organizations and others.
Working as a team, we jointly develop specific actions to be taken in support of the safety strategy, as well as and corresponding timelines. We also develop standard operating procedures so that all staff, including future personnel, can work together and ensure consistent implementation of the plan. Depending on the needs of the client, our health and safety planning can address such topics and areas as:
- Continuous Improvement — Including feedback loops, continuous monitoring and adjustment, informed decision-making and stakeholder participation
- Prevention & Safety — Designing support systems, policies and procedures for successful safety, crime prevention, emergency and crisis preparedness programs
- Community Collaboration — Creating and implementing action plans for buy-in from community residents as well as policy-makers and other stakeholders
- Incident Management — Developing policies for the use of information technology and communications systems to ensure consistent incident management, information sharing and recovery
